I am saddened and moved to hear the news of Deborah's passing, made even more poignant by learning that she died four years ago without most of us knowing about it until now. The fact that we often grow so apart as we move through life underscores the importance of memories of past friendships, and I am grateful to enjoy wonderful memories of Deborah during out time together at Grady. Along with her powerful intellect, she possessed a quick wit, great sense of humor, and uplifting smile. Time spent with her and Melanie Thompson are among my best memories of Grady. It is no surprise that she played such an important role in the Hubbell Telescope and other projects. I am sure that the fact that our learning of her passing coincides with the activation of the new James Webb Telescope would bring a smile to her face.
